David Colón is an American singer-songwriter, filmmaker, and creative director whose career bridges music, film, and television.
With roots in New York City and Miami, Colón first gained national recognition with his song Weather the Storm, an anthem for those affected by Hurricane Andrew in 1991. Following that success, he gathered local artists in a Miami studio to record a Christmas song that became a celebratory anthem for the community, one that still lives on to this day.
The project reflected Colón’s collaborative heart, a trait that has continued to shape his work throughout his career.
By age 19, Colón had signed his first record deal with Abacus records and gone on to collaborate with artists and producers including Raul Malo of The Mavericks, Billy Mann, and George Noriega.
As the founder and frontman of the band Small Town Fair, Colón has released multiple albums blending folk, rock, soul, and Americana.
Their 2016 album A Beautiful Distraction earned the group Short Film Music Video of the Year honors, further solidifying Colón’s reputation for pairing powerful songwriting with visual storytelling. In 2023, Small Town Fair released two new albums, Something Good and Something Like That, the latter launched with a live concert at the historic Franklin Theatre in Tennessee.

Beyond music, Colón has worked extensively in film and media. He served as Creative Lead at NBC and later as Creative Director at The AMG (Artist Management Group), working alongside artists such as Brad Paisley, Chris Young, and Payton Smith. He has directed acclaimed music videos for Jana Kramer, Kristian Bush, and Essex County, as well as commercials and PSAs that have earned him four Emmy nominations. On television, Colón created and directed original shows, including Mafia Law and The BreakDown – The Science of Dance.

In 2025, Colón launched The MotionPoet Project, his most ambitious work to date — an anthology of over 125 original songs, all written, performed, and produced by him. The project serves as both a living archive and an artistic statement, showcasing his wide-ranging musical influences while pioneering the use of voice mapping technology to expand creative expression. More than a catalog, MotionPoet embodies Colón’s lifelong pursuit: to tell human stories through music in ways that are honest, innovative, and enduring.
